Striking &
Striking Conditioning

Boxing, kickboxing and high-intensity striking conditioning classes at Society Members Club in Chiswick. All levels welcome — no experience required.

The Programme

Two Classes,
One Goal

We offer two distinct striking-focused sessions at Wave BJJ. The first is a technical striking class — focused on boxing and kickboxing fundamentals, combinations, defensive movement and pad work. The second is striking conditioning — a high-intensity class that uses striking-based drills to build serious fitness.

Both classes are taught by experienced coaches and are open to all levels. Whether you have never thrown a punch before or you have a martial arts background looking to sharpen your stand-up game — these sessions are built for you.

Striking complements BJJ training naturally. Understanding range, timing and how to generate power standing up makes you a more complete martial artist and gives you a genuine, well-rounded self-defence skillset.

Striking Classes

Technical boxing and kickboxing instruction covering stance, guard, footwork, combinations and defensive movement. Pad work with a partner builds accuracy and timing.

Striking Conditioning

High-intensity conditioning sessions built around striking drills, pad rounds and circuits. Designed to push your fitness ceiling while developing striking mechanics.

No experience needed

Both classes are open to complete beginners. Coaches adapt instruction to the group — you will never be thrown in the deep end.

Complements your BJJ

Add striking to your training schedule alongside BJJ classes. The two disciplines work together to build a genuinely complete skill set.

All Levels. All Backgrounds.

You do not need a striking background to join. The majority of people who come to our striking classes are BJJ students looking to add stand-up skills, or complete beginners looking for a great workout with a technical edge. Coaches scale the session to whoever is in the room.

What You Get
From Striking

Fitness

Striking training is one of the most effective full-body conditioning methods available. Rounds on the pads and bags build cardiovascular endurance, explosive power and muscular stamina in a way that keeps you fully engaged.

Self Defence

Understanding how to strike — and more importantly how strikes work — is a fundamental layer of real-world self defence. Striking classes give you the tools to protect yourself standing up, which complements your BJJ ground skills perfectly.

Technical Precision

Good striking is built on mechanics — footwork, hip rotation, guard position and timing. Our coaches break technique down to the fundamentals so you develop habits that are effective and safe, regardless of your starting point.

Confidence

There is something deeply confidence-building about learning to strike and absorb contact in a controlled environment. You develop composure under pressure — a quality that carries well beyond the gym.

Conditioning

Our striking conditioning classes are specifically designed to push your fitness ceiling. High-intensity pad rounds, circuit work and movement drills make this one of the most effective conditioning sessions you will find anywhere in West London.

Community

Striking classes at Wave run alongside our BJJ programme, so you train alongside the same close-knit community. Whether you're a BJJ student looking to add striking or someone starting from scratch — you're welcome here.

What to Expect

How a Striking Class is Structured

Every striking session at Wave BJJ follows a clear structure. You always know what to expect — which makes it easy to turn up and give everything you have.

01

Warm Up & Movement

Every class opens with footwork drills, shadow boxing and movement patterns. This warms the body, sharpens coordination and gets you thinking about range and positioning before any contact begins.

02

Technique Instruction

The coach breaks down the session's striking techniques — combinations, defensive movements, or conditioning sequences. Instruction focuses on mechanics: stance, guard, hip involvement and timing.

03

Pad Work & Bag Rounds

Techniques are applied on the pads or heavy bags. Pad work develops accuracy, power and timing in a partner context. Bag rounds build conditioning and allow you to develop flow and power without a partner.

04

Conditioning Finish

Classes close with a structured conditioning block — circuits, rounds or partner drills designed to push your output. This is where fitness gains are made and mental toughness is tested.
