This notice explains how Wave BJJ handles personal information when you visit our website, contact us or use our training services.
Who we are
Wave BJJ is operated by Chiswick Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Ltd (company number 08572357). For the information we collect and use to run our academy, we are the data controller. You can contact us at info@wavebjj.co or write to Wave BJJ, Society Gym & BJJ, 11–13 Chiswick High Road, London, W4 2ND.
Information we collect
When you contact us, book training or become a member, we may receive your name, contact details, messages, booking and membership information, attendance details and payment status. For children’s classes this may include a child’s name and age and their parent or guardian’s contact details. Please only provide information needed for your enquiry or booking. Our website and service providers may also collect technical information such as IP address, device and browser information, pages visited and referral information.
How and why we use information
We use information to respond to enquiries, arrange classes, administer bookings and memberships, communicate service updates and keep our website and services secure. Our legal bases under UK data protection law depend on the purpose: taking steps at your request or performing a contract for bookings and memberships; legitimate interests for handling enquiries, administration and security; legal obligations for records we must retain; and consent where required for marketing or non-essential cookies. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests and withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Children and health information
Parents or guardians should arrange children’s bookings and provide the necessary information on their behalf. We use children’s information to organise appropriate classes and communicate with their parent or guardian. Please do not send sensitive medical information through general website chat or enquiry forms. If information about an injury or health condition is needed for safe participation, contact the team so we can explain what is needed and the applicable lawful basis and additional protection for that information.
Bookings, payments and third-party services
Our website links to or embeds services including Momence for bookings, memberships and webchat, and TeamUp for private-class appointments. These providers may collect information directly when you use their services. Payment details entered on a provider’s checkout are handled by that provider and its payment processors. We may receive booking and payment-status information to administer your training. WhatsApp, Google Maps and YouTube may also receive information when you follow their links or use embedded content. Their own privacy notices explain how they handle information for their purposes.
Cookies, storage and Google Ads
The website uses browser storage to remember when you dismiss an announcement and to support access to the coaches area. It also includes the Google Ads tag (AW-989248642), which can send information about visits and interactions to Google and may use cookies or similar technologies for advertising measurement and personalisation. Embedded booking, chat and video services may use their own cookies. Non-essential advertising cookies require consent under applicable UK rules. This policy describes these technologies; it is not itself a cookie-consent mechanism. Browser settings can block or delete cookies, although some services may then work differently. Google’s privacy controls and My Ad Center provide additional choices about advertising.
Sharing and international processing
Information may be shared with authorised members of our team and service providers involved in hosting, communications, bookings, payments and website measurement, where needed for those purposes. It may also be disclosed where required by law or necessary to protect legal rights. Some providers may process information outside the UK. Where we arrange a restricted international transfer, appropriate safeguards or another permitted legal basis are required. Retention and security
We retain information for as long as needed for the purpose for which it was collected, including managing enquiries, providing services, meeting legal and accounting obligations and resolving disputes. Retention depends on the type of record and the applicable requirements; third-party providers may have their own retention periods. We aim to limit access to those who need it and use appropriate safeguards. No website or electronic transmission can be guaranteed completely secure.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances, you can request access to your information, correction, deletion, restriction of processing or a portable copy.
